Teen Broadway Boot Camp 2020

Hello Teens!

We are so so excited to be moving forward with Children of Eden! This will definitely be a different and unique summer experience, and we can’t wait to get started.

One major difference this year is that the camp enrollment will be audition based. This is not normally how camp is run. However, because of the strict crowd capacity guidelines, we have to adjust to what is safe. The maximum number of students in one show is 10. That being said, we have planned for the option of two casts, which would rehearse at different times during the day. Therefore there are 20 possible slots open. However, for example let’s say 15 students audition. There would not be enough students to do two casts, and we would have to move forward with one cast of 10. If 25 students audition for example, we could proceed with two casts of 10, 20 students total. If it happens that students are not cast, they will be put on an alternate list. Also, they will be put on a priority list for opportunities in August such as private lessons and coachings.

Teen Camp Daily Schedule:

  • Dates: July 6th - July 31st

  • Days/Time: Monday - Friday

    • Cast A: 1:30 - 4:30pm

***4:30 - 5:00pm will be used to sanitize the space between casts.

  • Cast B: 5:00 - 8:00pm (if applicable)

Auditions will be held on June 14, 2020 at Riverside Theater Works. If you are unable to attend this date, please reach out to us and we can try to make other arrangements via Zoom or sending in a video.

Before you panic about it being so soon, please note that there will be no dance audition, and no scenes to prepare or memorize. That means that you only have to focus on learning/preparing/memorizing one 32 bar cut, while being familiar with the other cuts in case we want to hear more. You can do it!

There will also be two monologues in the audition packet for you to be familiar with. These do not need to be memorized, but please read through them in case we feel we need to hear them.

All audition materials can be found in the Google Drive folder.

  • Something to note: you can choose to sing any of the songs provided. You do not need to choose a song based on your identifying gender. None of these roles are gender specific.

  • Also, keep in mind that you will be wearing masks for the audition, rehearsal process and performance, so remember that in terms of the storytelling aspect of your audition.

Please see link below for audition materials:

When you arrive for your audition:

  • Please make sure you are wearing a mask.

  • We will take your temperature at the door.

  • Please sign in and go wait in the theater. There will be chairs set up 6 feet apart.

  • A monitor will let you know when it is your turn, and you will head up to the dance studio for your audition.

COVID-19 Information & Safety Guidelines:

We will be following the CDC recommended guidelines during the rehearsal process and performance. Please see the attached waiver that will need to be signed and sent back to us before your audition. Please know that we have been in communication with a city official of Boston and we are following the guidelines in accordance with the safety requirements mandated by Hyde Park. We have also sought guidance from a public health professional from Tufts, who has looked over our plan. They also shared this resource with us that was very helpful and informative:

It is important to note that there is no such thing as “no risk”. We know that the risk can increase when singing and projecting our voices. Therefore, we have prepared and planned with guidelines that will keep us safe and protected. Please look over the following so that you can know what to expect.

Day to day operations:

  • Masks will be worn at all times by students and staff.

  • We will assign designated rehearsal chairs/areas for each individual student for learning music and breaks.

  • Temperature checks for staff and students at check in.

  • We will be adhering to the 6 feet social distancing parameters both during rehearsal time, and including the blocking/choreography of the show.

  • We will utilize both the theater and the dance hall as large rehearsal spaces to split up the students so there are less people in one location.

  • Frequent sanitizing of all rooms and surfaces.

  • All students will be equipped with lysol wipes and hand sanitizer to carry around with them at all times.

  • All doors within the theater are left open to avoid using door handles.

  • No live performance - we will record the show from three angles and edit it.

  • All students would be in one costume throughout the whole show - no costume changes.

  • Students will be “on stage” throughout, so no crowding in the wings or backstage.

  • No audience, which allows us to use the entire theater space.

Lots of important information to take in here, but we feel confident that this will be a fun and creative summer experience! Of course if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out. We will be happy to help! We are all really looking forward to this production, and think it will be something unique and special.

Thank you and can’t wait to see you!
